Stay | Protea Hotel Fire and Ice Cape Town

This past Friday we were invited to stay at the Protea Hotel Fire and Ice Cape Town. A little holiday in central Cape Town, 'staycations' may be my new favourite thing. Yes, there are beautiful places to discover and road trips to be had - but exploring our own, gorgeous Cape Town is a treat in itself.

We checked in after work on Friday - it's possible to be at the hotel by 17h30, after a full day's work. We had a little time to explore our room, before heading out to see the rest of the hotel. Protea Hotel Fire and Ice Cape Town is definitely one of the 'funkiest' in town - with small touches of humour visible almost every where you look. Vibrant colours and the use of light are defining features.

Our room had a queen sized bed, desk and bathroom (no bath). Best feature of the night? Air conditioning. It was bliss ordering milkshakes to take up to our room after dinner, relaxing on the bed and literally, chilling.

The position of the hotel gives you both fantastic city-scapes as well as gorgeous views of the mountain - if you peek in the image below, you will also see our beloved 15 on Orange Hotel.

Being so central, if you don't feel like being ensconced in your air-conditioned room while enjoying a Turkish Delight milkshake, there are plenty of places to explore on foot - no better excuse to be a tourist in your own city (ahem, without having to worry about parking).

The hotel has a fantastic pool deck and lounge, with balconies on either side of the building - sadly there wasn't enough time to enjoy all the facilities, but when the temperature hit 35 degrees on the Saturday, the pool looked like the perfect place to stay.

The reception area is vibey and vibrant - a DJ started at 19h00 on the Friday night and the bar was well occupied. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the hotel - but more on that next week.
