Hello, Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival

Or, as this post could also have been titled 'hello, dream blogging assignment'. In life 'pre-blog', I lived in Knysna, briefly - dabbling in hospitality, I managed a 5* guest house for a season - this was five years ago, and I haven't been back since.

I had put my Knysna experience firmly in a box, sealed it and packed it in the deep crevices of my mind, where I expected it to stay - until I received the most wonderful email asking me if I would like to write about the food highlights of this year's Pick n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival. Not from press releases or stock photographs - but by spending four days at the festival, feasting.

It's tough sharing such amazing news, without making you hate me a little (I completely understand if you do, though). I'll be doing 'preparation posts' beforehand - including recipes from top Knysna chefs, tips on what to pack for the festival, highlights for families and adventurers - and maybe even a chance for you to find the best oyster gems in Cape Town.

These are my highlights so far for the four days I'll be there:

The Knysna Wine Festival and Night Market on 8 July
The Flavours Gourmet evening on 9 July
The Oyster Shuckle Comedy evening on 10 July

In between I will be feasting on meals and interviews with some of Knysna's top chefs, meeting the Knysna Green Chefs, and hopefully (hopefully) visiting the Knysna Elephant Park. A little obsessed with elephants, so hoping I can squeeze this one in. Although, considering the 'professional eating' that is to be done, they may soon recognise me as one of their own...

Am I excited? Ridiculously. I'm honoured to be writing about this for you and can't wait to share the delicious days to come. In the meantime - time to feast our eyes :
