Constantia Fresh 2014

One of the (many) perks of living in Cape Town - and in the Southern Suburbs in particular - is our proximity to the Constantia Wine Route. Not only are we able to wander down to Buitenverwachting, Steenberg or Constantia Uitsig in a matter of minutes, but there is also a feast of food and wine festivals throughout the year.

This was our first time at Constantia Fresh - with over 200 wines on offer and the area's top chefs providing food stalls, we were guaranteed a delicious day. We wandered, tasted, and discovered a new favourite red - Bouchard Finlayson's Hannibal and feasted on pork from BistroSixteen82 - but first, photographs to tempt you to attend next year:

Then, onto the food. Clear highlights were Brad Ball's porchetta rolls from Bistro Sixteen82 (it would be best if I didn't disclaim how many we ate) and Peter Tempelhoff's steak tartare and fish tacos - naturally. The best thing about your event ticket? Limitless wine and food tastings. Enough said.

We wandered, drank and feasted - and promptly fell in love with these cork wreaths from Klein Constantia. Christmas wish list, please.

It was a gorgeous day, in a naturally beautiful setting - we're thrilled to have discovered another reason to visit our favourite wine route and area already looking forward to 2015. More pork and red wine, please.

Note : We received two tickets to attend the festival. All images and views are my own. There was an unfortunate incident regarding the hay bales and itching guests - which we have been assured will not be a problem next year, as no hay bales will be used.
