Recently I was invited to spend a morning with the ladies of Come Wine With Us
to appreciate the finer arts of Beauty, Baking and Bubbly. So, one
Saturday, a group of bubbly ladies descended upon the V and A Market on
the Wharf for a morning of spoils.
We were greeted by Van Loveren's MCC before being treated to a baking demo by the ladies of The Birdcage- who gave us a sneak peek at the recently launched NoMU Baking Kits
(more on these in a later post). They showed us a flourless carrot
cake, chocolate cake and lemon poppy seed cake - the last of which I have
since been craving to make. Watch this space.
After
a few cake and decorating tips, we were escorted to two long tables,
laden with treats and flowers. We chatted and ate, while the bubbles
flowed freely. We were then given a beauty talk by the team of Shiseido
- showing us a few makeup and beauty tips. They've since encouraged me
to finally try liquid eye-liner - for that, I shall be eternally
grateful. Shiseido have also got me obsessed over their Perfect Foundation Brush- perhaps a Christmas spoil for myself.
Then Nox from Phenology talked
to use about flowers. Which was more informative and interesting that I
could have ever imagined. With a PhD in Botany, this lady knows her
flowers - but still managed to make it interesting and accessible to us
plebs. Useful tips of the day : to extend the life of your cut flowers,
add sugar, bleach or strong alcohol to the water. Who'd have thought?
Another pleasant (and unexpected discovery) of the day was Funky Aprons. Alexa from van Loveren
was wearing one of her designs, and I fell in love with it. I seemed to
be the only person who paid much attention to this retro
mint-green-and-lace beauty - so I went home with it. Keep an eye out -
I'll be giving one of Nadine's gorgeous aprons away here in a few weeks.
It
was a fantastic morning - perfect to spend with the girls - and ending
in exceptionally generous goodie bags. I do hope Come Wine With Us do a
similar event again!
If you're keen to see what the fuss is about, there is a dinner happening next week - with a few tickets still available for Wednesday. You're guaranteed a good meal, great wine and maybe even a few new friends.
