Lucky Fish and Chips | Long Street

As part of our town adventuring, we stopped in at Lucky Fish and Chips in Long Street for well, fish and chips. More specifically, their 'lucky fish plattter' - which also added calamari and prawns to the mix.

Walking in from a rather blustery day, you're almost instantly transported to a little Mediterranean hideaway. Large, light and airy and simply beautifully decorated, it was a surprise for Long Street - especially for a 'fish and chip' shop.

The restaurant was fairly quiet - it's self service at the counter - and our food arrived pretty promptly. A wooden board with two pieces of very fresh, crispy tender hake, 6 prawns, a mound of calamari and more chips than we could finish. Our two enamel plates arrived, and we tucked in.

The calamari was a highlight - tender and encased in a particularly tasty spice mix, it was the first to go. The fish was also very well done - not excessively oily and very crispy. For R155, it was a generous portion and great value for money - we only managed about half of the chips.

Lucky Fish and Chips is part of the larger Harbour House group - boasting siblings such as Harbour House and Live Bait - it was always going to be a delicious visit.

I see that parking could be an issue for this branch (we walked) - we'll likely try the Bree Street or Kalk Bay branches next. Yes, there will definitely be a next time.

Note : I won our meal. All images and views are my own.
